Marcella Smith, 42, of Bayonne, was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

On Thursday around 9:12 p.m., Smith was taken into custody from the McDonalds located near the intersection of 25th Street and Broadway, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance inside McDonalds. They located Smith inside of and escorted her out of the restaurant.

While outside, she continued to be irate and highly agitated as she repeatedly screamed profanities at the officers and became aggressive. Smith then struck one officer in the face with her hand, at which time she was placed under arrest, officials said.

During the handcuffing process, Smith refused to submit to the arrest and continually pulled away from the officers grasp. Eventually, police were able to gain control of Smith and place her into handcuffs, authorities said.

Afterwards, Smith was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center to be treated for a pre-existing medical condition.
