Stack on standing with Solomon: ‘Whatever we can deliver for Jersey City, I’m there’

State Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack elaborated on why he, along with the majority of the Hudson County legislative delegation, stood with Jersey City Mayor James Solomon on Wednesday when he announced an over quarter billion dollar budget deficit.

“I think John, it’s important to be there, we’re all mayors, we’re all in the same county together, Mayor Solomon has his challenges – we all do. I do, we all do, in different ways, in different communities,” Stack told HCV at an event for his civic association Thursday night.

“I think it’s important to have the legislative team together in Hudson County to show that whatever we can deliver for Jersey City, I’m there, even though I don’t represent Jersey City as part of my legislative district, I’m there to help them and offer a hand as I would ask the others if Union City or one of the North Hudson municipalities needed help.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Solomon hosted an explosive press conference in the City Council chambers of City Hall, declaring that his predecessor, Steven Fulop, had decimated the municipal budget to the point that the deficit had exceeded $250 million.

While Fulop dismissed the presser as merely a publicity stunt, Solomon made it a point to be joined by a number of other local elected officials in hopes of adding some additional weight behind his words.

State Senators Angela McKnight (D-31), Raj Mukherji (D-32), and Stack were present, as were Assembly members William Sampson, Jerry Walker (both D-31), Ravi Bhalla, Katie Brennan (D-32), and Larry Wainstein (D-33).

Also joining the state lawmakers were Jersey City Ward B Councilman Joel Brooks, Ward C Councilman Tom Zuppa, and Councilwoman at-Large Mamta Singh.

And although Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, also the chair of the county Democrats, did not attend, his subsequent statement implied that leadership in Trenton is aware of the situation and are weighing options to help.

“We could have our political differences, but I think we should all come together as a delegation: senators, assembly people, mayors. We can argue and we can fight, but when it comes to serving the people, we should be coming together,” Stack concluded.

  1. What is all about? I don’t get it.

Stack is in Trenton forever and brings all the goodies straight to Union City. You can determine which city is a dump, once you cross Secaucus Ave into Jersey City. Other then that, Dems are abusing constituents left and right. See privatization of Liberty State Park or gutting of OPRA. Don’t expect changes just because a photo op.
