“Congressman Rob Menendez has made a major positive impact on Hudson County in his first term and the Hudson County Democratic Organization is proud to stand with him and offer him our endorsement in 2024,” HCDO Chair Anthony Vainieri said in a statement.

“From delivering millions of dollars in grant funding for key priorities like our infrastructure and law enforcement, to helping thousands of constituents navigate the federal government bureaucracy, to always standing up for our Democratic values, Congressman Menendez is a strong representative for Hudson County and someone we can count on to deliver for our residents.”

Menendez, who is seeking a second term in the House, is credited with helping secure $11.1 billion for the district and closing over a 1,000 cases for constituents during his first two-year stint in Washington.

“Since taking office in January, my focus has always been the people whom I am privileged to represent and serving the hard-working families in this district. The challenges we are facing are unprecedented and a test of our collective will to meet this moment,” added Menendez.

“I see that every day, whether I am in the halls of Congress or meeting with constituents in the district. And the work ahead is bigger than any one person. We must all be in it together and work with leaders at every level of government to deliver the change our residents demand and deserve. That is why I am so honored to run with the Hudson County Democratic Organization and to collaborate with our incredible group of leaders. We must win the future for all our families and together, we will.”

In an Instagram post, Hudson County Executive-elect Craig Guy formally endorsed Menendez, which was not surprising since he already informally expressed support for a second term.

“I am proud to formally endorse my friend Rob Menendez for Congress. As a freshman Congressman Rob has worked extremely hard and has delivered results for his constituents in the 8th District and Hudson County,” he wrote.

“In my opinion there is no one more qualified or capable for this important role and I look forward to working to get Rob re-elected.”

Kyle Jasey, the son of outgoing Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-27), has already declared a challenge with Menendez, with Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla widely expected to run after indicating he was seriously considering a House bid in late September.

This prompted Menendez to announce re-election early in the midst of his father, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s (D-NJ), facing legal troubles: a federal indictment charging him accepting cash, a car, and gold bars, among other things, in exchange for his influence.

A superseding indictment charged him with acting as a foreign agent to the government of Egypt.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and while he has hinted at running for re-election, turning up the heat after the HCDO endorsed Tammy Murphy, the wife of Gov. Phil Murphy (D) this evening’s development could hint that won’t end up happening.

A new poll tested Bhalla, Ward E Councilman James Solomon, and Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez against Rob Menendez in the 8th District, as HCV first reported earlier today, but the results appear to be largely inconsequential now.
