“Since coming to Congress, I’ve tirelessly advocated for funding to improve our region’s public transportation and critical infrastructure,” he said in a statement.
“We know that the challenges we face in building an efficient and reliable transportation system can be solved if we take urgent action and resolve to see it through. I’m grateful that that Federal Railroad Administration is partnering with us to make that a reality, and I look forward to the work ahead.”
The funding is provided through three grants as part of the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail, focused on key projects along the Northeast Corridor.
This includes $187.5 million for the Sawtooth Bridges Replacement Project in Kearny, $80.2 million for Kearny Substation 41 Relocation, and $18.6 million for New York Metro Signal System Upgrades.
Back in June, Menendez spoke directly with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing and co-led letters urging the department to prioritize funding for track, signal, and infrastructure upgrades throughout the region.
Subsequently in September, Menendez sent a letter to the Federal Railroad Administration again urging that grant funding be provided to these projects.
