The municipal court chambers of the West New York town hall were packed last night as residents gathered to celebrate Dominican Independence Day, where Manny Segura and Margarita Guzman – the fifth candidate on Mayor Felix Roque’s re-election ticket – were honored as “Dominicans of the Year.”

Commissioner Fior’DAliza Frias, who is of Dominican descent, was the master of ceremonies for the event. Manny Segura was honored as “Dominican Man of the Year,” while Margarita Guzman was recognized as “Dominican Woman of the Year.”

Coincidentally, Guzman replaces Frias on the ticket – who will not seek re-election as an independent candidate.

Roque expressed his excitement about the event when speaking with Hudson County View, also stating that the latest addition to his team is an educator who “really cares about our community.”

Campaign spokesman Pablo Fonseca thanked Roque’s 2011 ticket, but called the current five-person slate “the team that’s going to lead West New York into the future.”
