A Jersey City man was sentenced to 16 years in New Jersey State Prison yesterday for the fatal stabbing of Tyrone Haskins in 2021, authorities said.

Yesterday, Hudson County Superior Court Judge John A. Young sentenced Darius Evans, 49, to 16 years in New Jersey State Prison for the fatal stabbing of Tyrone Haskins in Jersey City on January 1st, 2021.
Evans, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter, on May 21st He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The State was represented at sentencing by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Gilbert.
On Friday, January 1st, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a possible stabbing victim found in the area of 333 Ocean Ave.
Responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Tyrone Haskins, 39, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to the torso. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:20 a.m.
Haskins turned himself in about a week-and-a-half later and faced murder and weapons charges after the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office did a public appeal.
