The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office arrested a man for the fatal New Year’s Day stabbing of Tyrone Haskins six days after asking for the public’s help to locate him.

The HCPO Homicide Unit arrested Darius Evans, 45, of Jersey City, in connection with the stabbing death of 39-year-old Tyrone Haskins on January 1st in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Evans was arrested after he turned himself in with his attorney today just after 12 noon at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. He previously had been charged in connection with the murder and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Evans is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
On Friday, January 1, 2021, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department
received a report of a possible stabbing victim found in the area of 333 Ocean Ave.
Upon arrival, responding Police Officers found a male with an apparent stab wound to his torso.
The victim, later identified as Haskins, 39, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:20 a.m.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
