Jersey City Councilwoman-at-Large Amy DeGise will not heed calls to resign and plans to fulfill the remainder of her four-year term ahead of the first rally asking her to step down, a spokesman said.

“Councilwoman DeGise was elected overwhelmingly just a few months ago and she has no intention of walking away from the commitment she made to serve the people of Jersey City. She will not resign and plans to complete her full term and continue in public service. Amy recognizes the calls that have been made for additional information and transparency,” Phil Swibinski, a spokesman for DeGise, said.
“She would very much like to address this situation more comprehensively, but there is a legal process that must play out first and she will not be making any additional public comment at this time. As she has said previously, she is thankful that no one was seriously injured and she fully intends to speak out more when the legal process is concluded. She will continue working hard to serve the people who elected her, just as she has since she was inaugurated in January.”
The first rally asking for DeGise to vacate her seat will be held at the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, near the corner of Newark Avenue and Bay Street, will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Ward E Councilman James Solomon and Ward F Councilman Frank Gilmore both called for DeGise’s resignation after CCTV footage of the incident was released, with Safe Streets JC and Bike JC following suit.
On the other hand, Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh, who ran alongside DeGise on Mayor Steven Fulop’s ticket in November, said “we should use this as an opportunity to make safer streets.”
DeGise did not stop or appear to hit her brakes after she hit bicyclist Andrew Black, who seemingly ran a red light, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Forrest Street on July 19th around 8 a.m., CCTV footage shows.
Surveillance footage from the West District police station released today shows that DeGise reported the incident in person around 2 p.m. on the same day.
Black has also called on DeGise to step down and has started a GoFundMe page as well.
She’s a HudCo Democrat pol so she feels entitled to do as she likes with zero accountability. The HudCo Machine has called in the Swibinski distraction operation to aid and abet the crime.
Does anyone know where she was during those six hours…with her self-reported head injury…before she went to the police?
She doesn’t even know where she was when this head injury occurred because it never happened . She needs to grow up and except responsibility for what’s she has done. She not only should be removed from office she needs to be charged and jailed for what she’s done. Leaving the scene of an accident that exactly what happened. If it were a family member of hers or Father she would be the 1st one on the news,
If I were her Dad I would be so ashamed of her . I can almost swear to you she was not raised not to care about others. When you get these positions sometimes you got start thinking your above the law. She’s wrong for what she did . If you had a head injury any neurologist would tell you when your brain dies or become injured it doesn’t stop performing and starts back up 6 hrs later it stops immediately. She’s a great LIAR.
She needs to be arrested and charged for failure to stop and render aid to the bicyclist she hit.
