More than 800 presents were given out during this year’s Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting along the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza in Jersey City earlier this week.

During the lighting ceremony with Santa Claus, Whole Spectrum Autism Founder Sherry Singh and her team handed out gifts to 800-plus people at the annual event, which she says is the most she has ever seen.
“This holiday season is about more than giving gifts; it’s about giving meaning. For families like mine, inclusion is the greatest gift of all. You’re giving a family the chance to be seen, supported, and included,” Singh said.
“Our programs depend entirely on the kindness of others. It’s through that generosity that we can continue changing lives well beyond the holiday season,” she explained.
Like many non-profits nationwide, Whole Spectrum Autism is facing difficult decisions as federal support has become very uncertain due to cuts under President Donald Trump (R).
She said that families across North Jersey rely on their programs and the demand has never been higher. For that reason, Singh is working hard to secure critical donations this holiday season to continue supporting the community.
Whole Spectrum Autism is calling the community together to protect local families who cannot afford to lose vital autism-friendly programs.
They are hoping supporters will help ensure that families touched by autism can experience the joy, comfort, and inclusion they deserve during the holiday season and beyond.
“Every dollar raised keeps our programs alive. These funds directly impact families who often feel forgotten. This campaign gives everyone a chance to be part of something bigger,” noted Whole Spectrum Autism Chief Operating Officer Jas Singh.
He noted that it goes in part to training educators and hosting sensory-safe community events.
