One firefighter was injured and six people were displaced by a two-alarm blaze on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne this afternoon, Fire Chief Keith Weaver said.

At about 2:51 p.m. today, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 888 JFK Boulevard, on a report of a fire.
Arriving companies found a working fire in the attic area of a 2-and-a-half story abandoned house, which is attached to a similar 2-and-a-half story occupied home at 886 JFK Boulevard.
Due to the attached homes, the fire progressed to a second alarm. Firefighters used three hand lines to extinguish the blaze, which was deemed under control at 3:54 p.m. One firefighter was injured and taken to a local hospital by McCabe Ambulance.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause and the Bayonne Building Department has deemed both structures temporarily uninhabitable due to fire and water damage.
The displaced residents of 886 JFK Boulevard are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross.
“I want to commend our firefighters for acting professionally and aggressively to bring this fire under control quickly,” Weaver added.
