“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street. More to follow,” the HCPO posted on social media just after 11 p.m. Sunday.

The incident took place on one of the main thoroughfares in the Heights that is not typically known for violent crime.

The killing is also the second of the year in Jersey City, with a man fatally shot on Jordan Avenue in an incident where two others were injured last month.

At 11:23 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided more details about the incident.

At approximately 9 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims with apparent gunshot wounds and were transported to Jersey City Medical Center.

Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old Jersey City woman was treated for an injury that is not considered life threatening.

A third victim, a 24-year-old Jersey City man, self-transported to University Hospital in Newark for a non-life threatening injury.

The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Jersey City PD are actively investigating this matter and no arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Office of the HCPO at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.

All information will be kept confidential.

In a Facebook post, Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh said that the incident appeared to be an isolated incident that occurred at a dance studio.
