“Rob works tirelessly for the residents of New Jersey’s Eighth District and I am proud to endorse him for re-election to Congress. Since taking office, Rob’s dedication to his community and our shared values has shined bright,” Watson Coleman said in a statement.

“We have worked closely together in calling for the closure of the Elizabeth Detention Center and standing strong against MAGA extremism. Rob is a progressive champion for our most vulnerable communities. He fights to uplift families, improve affordability, and strengthen reproductive rights. And as our state’s only Hispanic congressman, it is crucial we re-elect Rob so that his constituents can continue to benefit from his dedication, perspective, and service.”

Menendez is facing a spirited challenge from Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, who raised over $1 million by the end of last year in his bid to unseat the freshman congressman.

Kyle Jasey, the son of longtime former Essex County Assemblywoman Mila Jasey is also in the race, but has kept a relatively low profile since announcing in November.

“New Jersey is fortunate to have trail-blazing leaders like Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman and I am lucky to call her a friend and colleague,” Menendez added.

“I am always inspired by Bonnie’s work ethic and commitment to addressing our toughest issues. She is an incredible advocate for our state and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Watson Coleman is on of the few high-ranking New Jersey elected leaders who did not call on U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rob’s father, to resign after facing a litany of federal corruption charges, though she vowed to give back a $5,000 donation from his super PAC.

The Democratic primary in New Jersey is on June 4th.
