“Chiaravalloti and McKnight are the right candidates for our local [union] and for our families,” said John Bauer, president of HPEA Local 5185.

“We believe they will make the right choices for the future of healthcare in New Jersey.”

“Receiving the endorsement of the healthcare workers that service the patients of Bayonne Medical Center means the world to us,” Chiaravalloti said in a prepared statement.

Chiaravalloti and McKnight are the candidates endorsed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization for the June 2 Democratic primary election, also receiving endorsements from political heavyweights such as U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8), U.S. Sen. Cory Booker and former freeholder Neil Carroll – among many others.

Bruce Alston and Washington Flores, two candidates running off the line in District 31, have received endorsements from ex-Acting Mayor/state Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith and former Jersey City Councilwoman Viola Richardson.

Fellow Democrats Ray Regalado and Joe Conte are also in the mix, while Republicans Matthew Kopko and Herminio Mendoza are running unopposed on the Republican side.

HPAE Local 5185 membership consists of 850 registered nurses, professional, technical, service/maintenance staff, and business clericals that serve Bayonne Medical Center.

The organization says they are committed to advancing and improving patient care and professional practices and working conditions in their health care facilities throughout New Jersey.
