With Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla running for his Assembly seat, incumbent John Allen (D-32) won’t seek re-election as expected, he said this morning.

“Serving the people of Hoboken and Jersey City has been an immense honor,” Allen began in a statement
“I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together, from the adoption of the Target Zero Commission to combat traffic fatalities and securing vital state funding for local projects, to advancing critical legislation on climate change, reproductive healthcare access, and gun violence prevention.”
He also emphasized his commitment to maximizing his remaining time in office.
“My focus remains squarely on delivering for my constituents. I’ll continue fighting for the policies that matter most to the people of Hoboken, Jersey City and the entire state, and remain readily accessible to assist with any challenges they face navigating state services.”
Allen added that constituents can connect with him at his next office hours, scheduled for Monday, January 27th, from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at the Hoboken Multi Service Center. He regularly holds office hours at this location on the third Monday of every other month.
With Bhalla opting to run for Assembly in the 32nd Legislative District instead of seeking a third term, Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, a two-time running mate of his, became the first person to jump into the mayoral race on Monday, as HCV first reported.
In LD-32, Bhalla and Katie Brennan are currently running as independents, with Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez, Allen’s running mate in 2023, seeking re-election on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s ticket.
Brennan raised approximately $85,000 in the 4th quarter of last year, while Ramirez had a haul of about $49,000 (not counting an $80,000 loan), as HCV first reported.
