The West New York Board of Education appointed three trustees who will serve through at least the end of the year at their annual reorganization meeting earlier this month.

Out of the three incumbents whose term expired at the end of 2020, Trustee Jose Ruben Mendoza was the only one who applied to continue serving on the board.
Now former Trustees Damarys Gonzalez and Maite Fernandez opted not to seek the appointment.
Instead, Mendoza was joined by Ismail Dalia and Beatriz Amaro, the latter who is the district testing coordinator at the Hudson County Schools of Technology.
Sources with knowledge of the situation said that they were the only three people who applied to be selected for the vacant, volunteer positions.
All three appointments were unanimous (9-0), with the leadership positions remaining static: Adam Parkinson again appointed as board president and David Morel remaining the vice president.
On August 7th, 2019, the West New York Board of Commissioners unanimously approved (5-0) a measure to move their school board elections from November to April, which neighboring municipalities Weehawken and North Bergen already do.
Since there are nine trustees on the board, this appointment process that precedes the spring election must be repeated in both January 2022 and January 2023.
