A Union City man, 45, has been charged with a hit-and-run that badly injured a Jersey City pedestrian, 71, during the end-of-year holiday season last month, authorities said.

Marvin Flores Ortiz, 45, of Union City, is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

On Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, shortly after 11 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian stuck in the area of Central Avenue and Ferry Street in the Heights.

Responding officers located a 71-year-old old male victim with serious injuries. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center and the striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.
