Erol Nunn, 52, of Jersey City, was charged with shoplifting from the Family Dollar after fleeing the scene, being caught around the intersection of 44th Street and Avenue C at approximately 8:03 p.m., according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Less than a half an hour later, Jouny Youssef, 28 of Bayonne, was taken into custody at about 8:29 p.m. from 577 Broadway, the Family Dollar, police said.

Officers on scene investigating Nunn’s shoplifting were verbally attacked by Youssef, who accused the officers of “cutting him in line” at the register.

Officers repeatedly advised him that the register they were at was closed and advised
him to utilize the next register to make his purchase. Youssef refused to comply and continued to yell, prompting the manager to ask him to leave the store.

Youssef ignored the manager’s and officer’s numerous commands to leave the store, even after being advised that if he failed to comply, he would be arrested for defiant trespassing.

He continued to ignore the commands and was ultimately placed under arrest, authorities said.
