Union City says 152 residents tested positive for COVID-19 overnight, urges against NYE parties

The City of Union City has indicated that 152 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 overnight, urging residents to continue practicing preventative measures and avoiding large parties or gatherings on New Year’s Eve.

“To date, Union City has had a total of 7,996 confirmed COVID-19 and sadly 260 residents have succumbed to the virus. Please continue to keep their families in your thoughts and prayers,” the city tweeted this afternoon.

“The number of positive cases has gone up by 152 overnight. We cannot stress this enough, please continue to socially distance, wash your hands, wear a mask, and stay home if you are sick. Large gatherings and parties for New Year’s celebrations are discouraged.”

They continued that the testing site on 36th Street will be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, but will reopen on Saturday, January 2nd.

To schedule a test for Mondays and Fridays, call 201-537-5704, while those seeking an appointment on Tuesdays or Thursdays should dial 201-366-8465. Walk-ins are accepted on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Union City and Weehawken, who have collaborated on the testing site on 36th Street, began providing municipal health care workers and EMTs the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday.
