A three-alarm fire caused serious damage at a mixed-used apartment building on John F. Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen early this morning, displacing families and likely temporarily shutting down a business that was affected.

According to neighbors of 8200 JFK Boulevard (where the blaze broke out), who asked not to be identified, the fire broke out just before 1 a.m. and was under control by 2 a.m. this morning.

When Hudson County View arrived on the scene, the blaze  had already been extinguished, but firefighters continued to monitor the scene and appeared to be removing debris from the roof.

North Bergen police had also closed traffic off between 82nd and 84th Streets on John F Kennedy Boulevard as North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire.

The building has apartment units on the second floor, and a business – New Images Mirror and Glass Co. – on the first floor.

NHRF&R Chief Frank Montagne, as well as department Deputy Chief Charles Thomas, did not immediately return calls seeking comment, but this story will be updated in the event comment is given.
