“At a time when political violence, extremism, and terroristic threats are on the rise globally, it’s crucial that we support the organizations in our communities that are at the highest risk,” Menendez said in a statement.
“These non-profits and agencies are pillars of our communities, and with the help of this funding from FEMA, we can ensure that they have the support and resources they need to safely continue their important work.”
The funding is provided by the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), the Intercity Bus Security Grant Program (IBSGP), and the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP).
These programs focus on facility hardening, physical security enhancements, and infrastructure designed to protect against terrorist or extremist attacks.
11 non-profits and local governments in the 8th District, “many at high-risk of extremist and terrorist attacks or political violence,” received funding totaling $6,781,491, the congressman’s office said.
The specific recipients and their funding allocations are not being released due to the sensitive nature of the grants, a source familiar with the situation said.
