Prosecutor’s office identifies man found dead inside Downtown Jersey City building

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has identified the man found dead inside a building in Downtown Jersey City yesterday morning, though little other information has been released yet.

Yesterday at approximately 7:25 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of an unresponsive male at 410 Monmouth St. Responding officers found an unresponsive male at that location in the ground floor hallway of the building, Suarez said in a statement.

The male, later identified as Brandon Magwood, 35, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at approximately 7:40 a.m., authorities said.

The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

In light of his death, Magwood’s Facebook page has been flooded with posts from friends and family reflecting on the positive memories they have of him.

“My dear friend, my brother- No matter where you went, you filled the room with laughter bc you had one of the best personalities I knew,” wrote Michele Szymanski.

“You never changed your character no matter where you went, you were always real and couldn’t be anything less than ‘B’.”

“RIP in heaven Blacky Brandon Magwood u will be missed ,i can remember when i lived in jersey city of the memories of the fun times we all had an Blacky is the greastest [sic] friend ever ,my deepest condolences to whole family an friends !!,” added Ruth Rodriguez Colon.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
