Prosecutor: Jersey City man charged with intentionally burning 2 children with cigarette lighter

A Jersey City man has been charged with intentionally burning two children, a nine-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, with a cigarette lighter, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Jaimear Butler, 21, of Jersey City, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, aggravated assault in violation, and witness tampering, Suarez said in a statement.

On December 28th, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency about an allegation of two abused children who reside in Jersey City.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Butler physically abused both children – a nine-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl – by intentionally burning them with a cigarette lighter.

Butler was arrested on Monday, January 4th at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the investigation and arrest.
