At approximately 12:35 p.m. yesterday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a stabbing on Dwight Street near Bergen Avenue, Mello said in a statement.

Responding officers located an unresponsive male – later identified as Kareem Mack, 47, of Jersey City – with multiple apparent stab wounds. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1:10 p.m.

During the course of the investigation, Kyshawn Foster, 26, of Jersey City, was identified as a person of interest and later charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was arrested on Jackson Street in Hoboken and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance. Further, this matter is being investigated as an act of domestic violence.

Mello credited the HCPO Homicide Unit, the Jersey City PD, and the Hoboken Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
