Amir Fam, 41, of Ridgewood, New York, was charged with aggravated assault,
possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to Capt. Eric Amato.
Fam was taken into custody around 9 a.m. this morning from the area of 21st Street and Broadway. Officers responded to the area on a report of a fight involving the use of a knife.
Upon arrival, the fight had already ended and both parties were separated. At the scene, officers observed a man, later identified as Fam, holding a sharp object in his hand – which he dropped following officers’ commands.
The object was determined to be “a long silver nail.” During the on-scene investigation, it was determined that Fam approached the 61-year-old male victim as he was about to enter a local store, police said.
Unprovoked, Fam began yelling at and attacking the victim while swinging the nail at him. Fam never made contact with the victim and no injuries were reported.
During the arrest process, it was learned that Fam was wanted on two outstanding warrants: one out of Bayonne and one out of Point Pleasant, officials said.
