Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jersey City police received a tip from another law enforcement agency that there was a large amount marijuana being shipped which would stop in Jersey City, officials said.
The package was being shipped from Los Angeles to Long Island, New York and Jersey City was a stop along the route, possibly for a transfer, and the freight was listed as a “photo booth,” police said.
JCPD intercepted the package at a trucking outfit and confirmed the drugs were in the large package. A surveillance was then established, and a search warrant obtained, authorities said.
The recipient went to pick up the package, signed for it, and drove away in possession of the package around 4:20 p.m.
Officers quickly pulled the Ryder rental truck over, upon which two people were arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy, officials said.
As a result, about 110 pounds of marijuana was seized from the truck with an estimated street value of 1 million dollars, police said.
