Hareshkumar Maniya, 33, of Jersey City, was charged with driving while intoxicated yesterday, Police Chief Dennis Miller said this morning.

Maniya was arrested yesterday near the intersection the intersection of Paterson Plank Road and Plaza Center Road on a report of a suspicious vehicle, Miller began.

“When I took over as Chief we enacted the ‘park and walk’ concept where officers will park their police vehicles and walk around business areas or problematic areas and engage business owners and the community,” he said in an email.

“While on his park and walk, Police Officer Alex Witrock was walking through the municipal parking lot in the center of Town and approached an occupied vehicle that was parked. During the interaction with the driver, Hareshkumar Maniya, it was determined he was under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. Due to the level of his blood alcohol content, he was transported to and left in care of Hudson Regional Hospital.”

He declined to release his BAC, noting that the department typically does not make those sorts of testing results public.
