Police: Bayonne man caught with weed after punching deli worker in the face

A Bayonne man was caught with a small amount of marijuana after punching a deli worker in the face right after underpaying for items at the store, police said.

Giovanny Alfaro, 23, of Bayonne, was charged with robbery, possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Yesterday around 3:01 p.m., Alfaro was taken into custody from the area of 25th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard on an arrest warrant issued his arrest regarding a robbery that occurred on January 5th at City Special Deli, located at 927 Broadway, authorities said.

On that date, the 47-year-old male victim (store employee) reported that a male, later identified as Alfaro, entered his store and fled after underpaying for items he wanted to purchase, officials said.

Alfaro then returned to the store and walked behind the counter to confront the victim. An altercation ensued resulting in Alfaro punching the victim about the face before fleeing the store again, police said.

After being apprehended, a search incident led to the recovery of marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia, authorities said.
