“It’s just a fun event for the family, we come every year, it’s a nice time to get together with your kids and spend the afternoon,” said Mario Pavon, who was sporting a monkey mask and said his family has been to the gathering at the township rec center every year.

“Of course the candy, getting lots of candy,” he said when asked what his children enjoyed the most.

Youngsters enjoying the Halloween season had a wide assortment of goodies to choose from including candy bars, lollipops, cookies and plenty of other sweets.

“We can last year, it was wonderful for the kids, and they loved it again this year,” added Asterid Herrera, who donned an cheerleader costume for today.

Additionally, State Senator (D-32)/North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco revealed that his son came up with the idea three years ago and he’s pleasantly surprised to see the event grow consistently ever since.

“Well ya know, when it first started three year’s ago, my son came here and put a group together to organize it and I didn’t know if it would be successful – and it was. The very first year we had probably about 500 kids come through,” Sacco said.

“But right now, we’re well over 1,000. One group made a 1,000 bags and they were gone within the first hour. Now we’re in our third hour now, no idea how many people actually came through, but it’s great, kids are having fun and it’s safe.”

The North Bergen Police Department, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and NB CARES were just a few of the groups that volunteered their time to the event.
