In an editorial, independent 8th District congressional candidate Ari Eliopoulos explains why he is challenging U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez in November.

The people of New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District have always been forced to choose between political parties that spend more time fighting each other than fighting for the communities they represent.
That is why I am unwaveringly running for Congress as an Independent.
I am not running to serve a political party. I am running to serve the people.
As an educator, union leader, & special needs advocate, I have spent my career working directly with families, students, & working class people.
I’ve seen and lived the challenges we face every day: rising housing costs, underfunded classrooms, a healthcare system III crisis, & communities struggling with public safety, economic uncertainty, & local government officials that too often fail to deliver results.
My campaign is built on common sense ideas & solutions not partisan talking points.
I believe we can improve our education system, expand support for individuals and children with special needs, lower the cost of living, increase access to affordable housing, create longterm well paying jobs, strengthen public transportation & safety, reform to institutional systems, & make healthcare more affordable/accessible.
These are not Republican or Democrat priorities they are American priorities.
Our communities deserve representatives who solve problems instead of creating political theater. They deserve leaders who listen to the voices of the district, who put facts before ideology, who deliver on the promises they ran on, not quirky social media posts.
Too many of our machine career politicians campaign on promises of change only to leave behind higher taxes, mounting debt, and diminished public trust.
The people of our district deserve accountability, transparency, & leadership willing to make difficult decisions instead of passing the burden to future generations.
America has never been perfect, but it has always been a nation capable of renewal. Our strength has come from hardworking people, thriving diverse communities, and the belief that every generation can leave this country better than they found it.
That spirit should guide our politics once again focusing on the American dream.
This campaign is about putting people over politics & communities over political machines. It is about restoring trust in government by focusing on practical solutions that improve everyday life for working families.
If you’re tired of the same political games and believe Congress needs more independent voices willing to work with anyone to get results, I invite you to join our movement.
Together, we can build a government that serves the people not the machine parties and create a stronger future for New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District and our nation.
Respectfully,
Ari Eliopoulos
