North Bergen man charged with sexually assaulting juvenile from Edgewater

A North Bergen man was charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile from Edgewater after township police contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.

Khaled Khalil, 19, of North Bergen, was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, Musella said in a statement.

On Monday, February 17th, the North Bergen Police Department contacted Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an allegation that Khaled Khalil engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a juvenile in Edgewater.

An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Edgewater Police Department. As a result of the investigation, Khalil was arrested the following day.

Khalid was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.

No further details were disclosed regarding the relationship between Khalil and the juvenile. In New Jersey, the age of consent is 16.

The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Edgewater Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Martin.
