Jersey City Board of Education Trustee Lorenzo Richardson has endorsed Gina Verdibello and Marilyn Roman  ahead of the November 3 election.

Richardson made the endorsement via his Facebook page yesterday, noting that his endorsement is not a reflection of the Jersey City BOE as a whole, nor any other trustees.

Roman, the current vice president of the board, served as an educator for 32 years before being elected to the board in April 2012.

Furthermore, Richardson’s support of Verdibello should come as no surprise, given they ran together on the “Children First” slate last year.

Richardson and Gerald Lyons (Verdibello’s running mates), along with Joel Torres, ended up winning in dominant fashion in November after the Jersey City Education Association endorsed the “Education Matters” ticket that replaced Verdibello with Torres.

Verdibello recently told Hudson County View that she is seeking to improve the quality of education in Jersey City, as well as to improve facilities, if elected to the Jersey City BOE.

Roman and Verdibello are running against Vidya Gangadin, the board president, and newcomer John Reichart in the November 3 election – where three, three-year terms are up for grabs.

  1. Lorenzo Richardson endorsement means nothing. I am shocked he even got elected to the JCBOE. First, his aunt screwed up Ward F and now he will screw up our children’s education. I sure hope Parents for Progress/Excellence endorses Reichart and Gangadin to move our schools forward along with Dr. Marcia Lyles.

  2. I makes me proud! Our school board is turning around. I look forward to the day when I Jersey City has a majority that support the education and wellbeing of all children in Jersey City and not just a select few.
Public education should not show favoritism….quality education is for ALL children!
I too support Verdibello and Roman. I am going to add Vidya as the third candidate I support; however, I have some reservations about her past actions as a board member but I’m willing to take a “let’s see” approach. Besides I certainly would not support Reichart who I am certain is a Silverman, Lyles, Sangeeta, Jersey City Fund for Excellence and Equity/P4Privatization candidate!….At least at this time I can’t say for sure where Vidya is.
