“CIR SEIU members work every day to make our communities healthier while also fighting for better healthcare for all. I am proud to stand with them in those efforts and to have their endorsement. This campaign is about bringing good change to Jersey City,” Solomon said in a statement.

“That effort starts with improving access to healthcare and as Mayor I will fight alongside CIR SEIU to make that happen. This campaign has already built a ton of momentum and as we enter the next phase of this race, we are ready to take it to the next level.”

CIR is the largest house staff union in the country whose priorities include improving training and education while advancing patient care and healthcare access.

“As a resident physician at Jersey City Medical Center, I see in my patients how policy shapes the health and well-being of our communities. That’s why our union is endorsing James Solomon for Jersey City Mayor,” explained Dr. Russell Yee, of the Committee of Interns and Residents SEIU Healthcare.

“James has consistently stood up for working people—championing groundbreaking laws that support tenants, workers, and families. That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need to build a healthier, fairer future for everyone here in Jersey City.”

Solomon is a contender in the non-partisan November 4th contest to succeed Mayor Steven Fulop, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for governor instead of running for a fourth term.

Other mayoral hopefuls include former Gov. Jim McGreevey, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), Council President Joyce Watterman, former Board of Education President Mussab Ali, and Police Officer Christina Freeman.
