“Our members have dedicated their careers to protecting this county with integrity and professionalism. Under Jimmy Davis’ leadership, we believe they will finally have the respect and support they deserve. His vision will restore pride in the badge and bring back a sense of purpose that’s been missing for far too long,” the union said in a statement.

“Our campaign continues to gather significant momentum with each passing day. I am truly appreciative of all of the support we are receiving because of what we have accomplished in Bayonne, but also because of the vision we will carry forward into the County Sheriff’s Office,” added Davis.

The endorsement comes after the Peninsula City mayor shored up the support of four Bayonne public safety unions last week, as HCV first reported.

Davis is a retired police captain who previously served in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s homicide division before leading a special crimes unit working alongside prosecutors from several counties, the FBI, U.S. Treasury Department and Department of Justice.

He is challenging Schillari, a five-term incumbent, in the June 10th primary with the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).

Conversely, Schillari is running on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” ticket as part of his gubernatorial bid. He has the endorsement of seven local mayors, while Davis has five including himself.

“As a lifelong member of law enforcement, it disturbs me greatly to hear that this tremendous group of law enforcement professionals feel they have not been afforded the support they deserve from Sheriff Schillari,” Davis continued.

“The County Sheriff’s Office leadership has seemingly lost the respect of the people under their command due to lack of leadership. If I am elected, that will change on day one. As your Sheriff, I commit to having these fine officers do what they do best, make our roads safer, protect our courts, and protect our residents.”
