“The support we have garnered from the federal government demonstrates our collective commitment to enhance the vital transportation services upon which our communities depend,” Gov. Phil Murphy (D) said of the $425 million in federal funding for the state.

“I thank our congressional delegation for their persistent work in Washington to bring crucial federal dollars to our state, as well as Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti and her team for their continued efforts to provide funding for critical transportation projects.”

Regarding the Hoboken rail yard improvements, the governor’s office indicated that this project will allow for periodic inspections of multilevel rail cars, making them more readily available for service.

In October, Murphy joined Mile Square City officials in breaking ground on the comprehensive rail yards project, which had received $176 million in state funding at the time.

Hoboken has estimated the project will create 4,433 jobs on site with $9.6 million in annual retail spending and $4.5 million in annual revenue, while NJ Transit will benefit from ground lease payments, increased ridership, and customer experience improvements.

Additionally, more than 9,800 construction jobs will be created, officials said at the time.

Furthermore, the governor’s office announced at least one upcoming road improvement project for Kearny.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation will use the funds for a variety of projects that will be advertised or awarded by the end of the year.

That includes Fish House Road/Pennsylvania Avenue, with a goal of realigning the roadway and reconfigure the intersection of Central Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue in Kearny.

The roadway improvements will include drainage facilities and quality treatment areas.

  1. Another $5 million taxpayer funded hand out on top of the $176 million to bolster the failing management of New Jersey Transit. Hoboken will never see even a tiny fraction of the benefits politician promise.
