The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a Bayonne woman found inside a home on North Street.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a woman at 105 North Street in Bayonne. Additional information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted just before 1 p.m.
At 5:52 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.
This morning at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North St., she said in a statement.
Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
One person is in custody and investigators believe this is an isolated incident and additional information is forthcoming.
The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are actively investigating this case.
