A Bayonne police officer was suspended for 10 days last year after losing his department issued gun and ammunition, according to their annual major discipline report.

“On March 29th, 2024, Officer Jason Arnone reported that he lost his personally owned Sig
Sauer P365 9MM handgun which contained twelve department issued 9MM
ammunition,” the incident description says.

“This investigation revealed that Officer Arnone failed to follow the department’s written directive on the proper care of department property and equipment assigned to them or used by them in the course of duty. Officer Arnone received a 10 day suspension.”

Arnone was sworn in as a member of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office in May 2016 before being transferred to the Bayonne Police Department in July 2018.

He was then promoted as sergeant in December 2024, about eight months after the lost gun incident, the city announced at the time.

Beginning in mid-2020, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office mandated that all law enforcement agencies post their annual major discipline reports online by January 31st of each year, but many still just submit to the AG’s office through an online portal.

The state’s annual database has also not been updated with each department’s major discipline report yet.

The Jersey City and Hoboken Police Departments uploaded there reports today, while the North Bergen, Weehawken and West New York Police Departments have not uploaded their reports yet.

HCV reported on the termination and suspension, respectively, of two different Guttenberg police officers earlier today.
