At about 4:48 p.m. on Saturday,  the Bayonne Fire Department’s Public Safety Telecommunications Center received multiple calls for a fire at 122 W 54th St., Weaver said in a statement.

Arriving companies found fire on the second floor of the 2-and-a-half story home. Firefighters used a hand line to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 5:02 p.m. All occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

A fire investigation is underway, however, the fire appears to be accidental in nature.

The five tenants of the second floor apartment have been temporarily displaced and are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross.

“Once again, our firefighters reacted rapidly to this alarm, used their skill and professionalism to quickly get water on the fire, and kept this fire contained to the room of origin,” Weaver added.
