“New York Democrat Governor Hochul’s proposal to bring back Congestion Pricing is a clear attack on the hardworking men and women of New Jersey. President Trump’s resounding election was in large part due to out of control inflation and a spike in the cost of living,” Arango said in s tatement.

“Yet Hochul who purposefully hid her Congestion Pricing proposal during the 2024 election, would rather put another undue burden on the most vulnerable, instead of doing her job and adequately funding transportation by reining in the corruption and graft embedded in the MTA.”

On Thursday, Hochul noted that a $9 daytime base toll for cars entering Manhattan below 60th Street will take effect on January 5th, 2025, with that toll increasing to $12 by 2028.

Additionally, the overnight toll (9 p.m. through 5 a.m.) will be $2.25 instead of the initially expected $3.75.

The move is anticipated to bring in a total of $15 billion for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Hochul said.

“The Hudson County Republican Committee calls on Hochul to think of the far reaching economic consequences our families in Hudson County face, many of whom are first generation Americans or immigrants themselves. We need to invest in public transit and infrastructure, not play politics with people’s livelihoods,” Arango concluded.

The State of New Jersey filed a federal lawsuit looking to halt the initial congestion pricing plan in July 2023, with an amended lawsuit filed in January.
