53 cadets graduated from the Jersey City Police Department’s Junior Police Academy at a ceremony at the Franklin L. Williams Middle School, also known as Public School No. 7, this morning.

The three-week program included visits from several specialized units of the Jersey City Police Department including, their Emergency Services Unit, Traffic Enforcement, Office of Emergency Management, Street Crimes, and a bomb detection dog.
“Always dream big. Whatever you learned over the past three weeks, you can apply to whatever you do in life. Always remember integrity and honesty. Always remember your oath. Congratulations,” Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said at the event.
“You chose to spend 3 weeks of your summer doing something challenging. You got to see what real police work is all about. You learned what it takes to protect our city. You gained self-confidence that will help you in life. Remember that strength and motivation you found here,” added Police Chief Robert Kearns.
This free summer program has run since 2017 in partnership with the Jersey City Public Schools.
“Over the past three weeks, I’ve learned numerous lessons that will help me grow in my life. These experiences will play an essential part in my discipline, integrity, and way of thinking. Thank you for everything and for teaching us lessons to help us grow,” noted Cadet Viraj Chauhan.
A huge shout out and thank you to JCPD ESU Detective John Boamah who is not named ANYWHERE in this article – he and the other JCPD Officers who worked tirelessly day in and day out to run this amazing program while working their regular schedules INCLUDING training should be shown more respect than a simple mention. There is true HEROISM in their desire and DEDICATION to pouring into youth year after year… I have watched them grow this program successfully and they also deserve to be named and lauded for their exemplary service and execution of the academy
