Firefighters responded to an apartment blaze on the second floor of a three-story residential/commercial building on the 500th block of West Side Avenue at about 5:40 a.m. this morning, according to city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
The blaze reached two alarms before firefighters were successful in knocking it down within 30 minutes and ensuring all residents were cleared from the building without injury.
A total of 14 residents were relocated to emergency housing by the Red Cross and there were no injuries to firefighters.
Additionally, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Wallace-Scalcione added.
