North Bergen’s High Tech High School ranked in top 25 best public schools list

Hudson County Schools of Technology’s High Tech High School in North Bergen was ranked no. 12 among the top 25 best public high schools in the country, according to the online ratings and review website Niche.

Niche explains in their methodology page that academics grade factored into 50 percent of the final ranking per school, with health and grade safety, parent/student surveys on overall experience, student culture and diversity grade, teachers grade, sports and fitness, among several other categories, being considered as well.

Specifically, High Tech received an “A+” rating in academics grade, health and safety grade, student culture and diversity grade, teachers grade and resources and facilities grade.

The school, located on 2000 85th Street, also received a ranking of 4.4 out of 5 in the parent/student surveys on overall experience, based on 30 surveys.

“High Tech High School and our entire district have received numerous awards over the years because of the incredible work being done every day by our students, faculty, staff and administrators,” HCST Superintendent of Schools Frank Gargiulo said in a statement.

“Our district strives to continue bringing innovative new programs to our students to enrich their academic lives and prepare them for a successful future in the career of their choice. This kind of recognition is a signal to our entire learning community that their hard work is being noticed and celebrated.”

The school offers career-focused programs in many disciplines including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the performing arts, technology and visual arts, culinary arts and many more.

The school serves 937 students in grades 9 through 12 and accepts applications from hundreds of Hudson County students each year.

Since it opened in 1991, High Tech High School has received numerous awards, including a federal Blue Ribbon Schools award, numerous medals from U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Schools Rankings, the Governor’s School of Excellence award and many more.
