Last night at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King Drive after an individual reported a shooting to police officers patrolling the area, Suarez said in a statement.

The responding officers confirmed that a shooting had taken place at that location, but no victims were found.

An injured victim of the shooting, later identified as Kyle Howard, 34, of Newark, was privately transported to Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and no arrests have been made at this time.

The HCPO Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the HCPO at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on their official website at: http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.

All information will be kept confidential.

This is at least the second fatal shooting at the intersection this year, with Reginald Williams, 32, succumbing to gunshot injuries last month.
