“Despite significant financial obligations outside of our control—including rising pension payments and escalating insurance costs—we are proud to report that we have kept taxes stable with a 1% increase, unlike many other communities across the state facing steep increases,” Mayor Wayne Zitt wrote in an August 15th letter to residents.
“This is inclusive of your Municipal, School and County Taxes. We have continued to invest in essential services and capital improvements utilizing grant money without passing unnecessary costs onto our residents. Projects such as road repaving, sewer upgrades, and traffic signal improvements have moved forward.”
Zitt also thanked state Senator Brian Stack (D-33), who is also the Union City mayor, for getting Guttenberg a $1 million allocation from the state budget to help offset mandatory cost increases at the municipal level.
While the tax bill for Guttenberg residents was originally due on August 1st, the date has been extended to September 15th due to delays on the county level.
Any residents with questions on their bill can call Tax Search Officer Richard Anastasi at 201-868-2315 ext. 103 or email him ranastasi@myguttenberg.com.
Additionally, Town Administrator Cosmo Cirillo told HCV that the tax increase is approximately $117 for the year, or $9.75 per month on the average $300,000 assessed home.
