A 35-year old Bayonne man received a 20-year prison sentence on Friday, over three years after he was arrested for fatally stabbing his his 33-year-old wife inside their home.

Peter Revelo, 35, of Bayonne, previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter.
He was initially charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon when he was arrested on March 22nd, 2022, as HCV first reported.
The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act and 85% of the prison time must be served before becoming eligible for parole. The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Erica Bertuzzi.
On Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022, at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North Street.
Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, 33, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m.
A GoFundMe page for Tafoya Mendoza indicated that her life was taken in a domestic violence incident, leaving behind two young daughters.
” … Vanessa was a sweet and affectionate individual who was known for her compassionate heart. She had a passion for helping others and believed that there was good in everyone regardless of who they were,” the page description says.
“Vanessa leaves behind two daughters Alexa, 9 and Ari, 8. That both were both students in the BBOED school system.”
