Prosecutor: Bayonne man charged with stabbing his wife to death at North Street home

A Bayonne man has been charged with stabbing his wife to death in a North Street home yesterday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Peter Revelo, 32, of Bayonne, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, Suarez said in a statement.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at approximately 11:58 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a 911 call for service to 105 North St.

Responding officers found a woman, later identified as Mely Vanessa Tafoya Mendoza, 33, of Bayonne, with an apparent stab wound to her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:36 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Revelo was taken into custody at the scene and charged at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.

The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department are actively investigating this case.
