West New York man, 37, convicted of murdering his mother, 62, in January 2021

A 37-year-old West New York man was convicted of murdering his 62-year-old mother by a Hudson County jury yesterday, Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Emmanuel Gonzalez, 37, of West New York, was found guilty of murder and the verdict was delivered before Hudson County Superior Court Judge Angelo Servidio.

On Thursday January 1th4, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the West New York Police Department responded to 439 66th St. on a report of an unresponsive woman.

Upon arrival, officers were met by Gonzalez, who is the son of the victim. Officers were directed to a bedroom where the woman, later identified as Irma Gonzalez, 62, of West New York, was found unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and manner to be homicide.

Gonzalez was initially charges with aggravated assault but the charge was upgraded to murder a short time later.

The State was represented at trial by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar.
