Perez, the beneficiary of the charitable event, is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The fundraiser, hosted at Union Hill Middle School, focused around a charity basketball game between the Union City Police Officers and the New Jersey Chiefs. The night also included a halftime performance by “JAFFI” of Team LilMan.

Hudson County View asked Carlos Pina, the CEO of Pina Productionz, how he felt about the atmosphere of the event.

“I’m happy, I’m happy, the turnout is great. The gym is packed right now, it’s very early still, there’s a lot of people that have committed to come after work, so I look forward to it.”

Isabella’s mother, Norma Perez, a Union City teacher,  told Hudson County View how thankful her and her family is for the support they have received from the town and community.

We’re very thankful that everyone has been so supportive from the board of education to city hall, the police officers well as the chiefs for participating.”

With an intense matchup between the Chiefs and the Union City Police Department, the game ended in dramatic fashion for the police force: as a last-minute buzzer beater secured a 55-52 win.

All proceeds of the event will go to directly to Bella’s medical funds. To donate to “We Battle for Bella,” check out the GoFundMe page.
