“I’ve known Representative Rob Menendez for many years, and I’m not surprised he’s been such an effective champion for the people of his district. He listens to people, he knows what makes good policy, he focuses on solving real problems facing his community — and he gets results,” Booker said in a statement.

“We’ve stood together on so many shared priorities: protecting reproductive rights, lowering costs, fighting to get guns off our streets, securing billions of dollars in funding for the Gateway program, and many more. Rob has earned another term in Congress, and I’m proud to endorse his campaign for re-election so we can keep fighting together on the issues New Jerseyans care about most.”

While Menendez has the support of the vast majority of electeds in Hudson, Essex, and Union Counties, Booker was one of the few officials that hadn’t weighed in on the 8th District congressional race yet.

Given some history with Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla (he swore him in 2018), Menendez’s chief adversary in the June 4th primary, and the fact he had called on U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rob’s father, to resign, some politicos were unsure where Booker would land.

However, he has made his choice quite clear this morning.

“Senator Booker is an incredible leader and advocate for New Jersey who has been a friend and mentor for years, and I could not be prouder to have his support. I have had the privilege of working alongside Senator Booker to secure over $11 billion dollars in funding for the Eighth Congressional District and on critical legislative priorities like working to create healthier communities for all of our residents,” Rob Menendez stated.

“I look forward to fighting by his side on behalf of all New Jerseyans for years to come. I’m thankful for his support, his leadership and his continued friendship.”
