State Senator Angela McKnight (D-31) is congratulating Andrés Acebo for being named New Jersey City University’s (NJCU) 13th president last week, commending him on his tenure thus far.

“Congratulations to Andy Acebo, the newly appointed president of NJCU! Your unwavering dedication to the students, faculty, and the entire NJCU community is truly commendable,” she said in a statement.
“As interim president, your leadership guided NJCU through a pivotal moment, leaving the university stronger and better positioned for the future. I know you will continue building on this momentum to lead NJCU toward even greater success. Thank you for your committed leadership and for championing the university’s mission with passion and purpose.”
The NJCU Board of Trustees voted unanimously last week to name Acebo their next president, roughly 18 months after he had taken on the interim role, as HCV first reported.
He is only the third Hispanic to serve as leader of a four-year public institution in New Jersey and is also the youngest known president to lead a public university in the state, NJCU announced.
“President Acebo and his management team have provided exceptional leadership during the most critical period in our university’s history, and while he may have carried an interim title, the transformative work he has accomplished alongside our campus community has been anything but temporary,” NJCU Board Chair Luke Visconti said on Friday.
