Sources: Giattino poised to be named Hoboken council president again

Hoboken 6th Ward Councilwoman Jen Giattino is expected to be named council president again at tomorrow’s reorganization meeting, sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told HCV.

This will be Giattino’s fifth time as council president since 2016, with 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos named in 2018 and 2021, 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo serving in 2022, and Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour filling the leadership post last year.

Meanwhile, Councilman-at-Large Jim Doyle is expected to serve as vice president as part of a deal to quell the tension between Mayor Ravi Bhalla and his allies on the council and their opposition on the governing body, sources said.

Now serving in her fourth term, a fairly rare feat in Mile Square City politics, Giattino easily defeated Ian Rintel and Lauren Myers, who was backed by Bhalla, in November, securing nearly 66 percent of the vote.

With administration critic Paul Presinzano succeeding Councilman Mike DeFusco in the 1st Ward, Russo again remains the swing vote, though he is unlikely to back Bhalla in many instances since he is likely to announce his own bid for mayor sooner than later this year.

Russo had hoped to be council president for the second time in the past three years, but he was unable to find the votes this time around.

Wednesday’s reorganization meeting will convene at City Hall, 94 Washington St., at 7 p.m and will also stream live on the city’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

  1. Emily is too busy to handle many chores this year. Ravi and Emily fished their wish for the “Sanctuary City” invasion of NJ. They are driving the bus to Hoboken with all their new illegal alien friends. Now where is Ravi putting them?

Hoboken has lots of park space and new apartments arriving. They can fill them up.

  2. First Ravi takes losses on Rafvi, Marla “Line” Decker, and MAGA Attorney Barbie – all but puppet Cohen. Now Paul’s is about to give him an enema, and Russo will flip back, and I hear neither Sleepy Jim nor Joe want to run next year.

Boy this sucks for puppet Cohen and Hoboken’s favorite commie Mommy, Mayor Emily!

The arrogance of this “President” LMAO:

  3. Remember when Emily introduced an ordinace to permit the City of Hoboken to agree to a settlement with FBW (who were suing Ravi for allowing NY Waterway to locate maintenance operations and refueling facilities at Union Dry Dock) without every disclosing said terms then tried to rush to call the vote with Puppet Cohen’s support? Hilarious.

Good riddance Team Ravi! 2024 is looking much better.

How funny is it that Ravi is despearately trying to play the victim again in order to bail on Hoboken before his tax bill comes due? No one likes him outside of Mr. (and Mrs.) Steven Fullop, and each 3/4 of his endorsed candidates lost so his national aspiarations are shite and we can only hope locally he fades from politics soon enough. The Team Bhalla council will start propping Mayor Emily for 2025, but with Ravi failing to deliver anything but personal victimization, “Vision Zero” virtue signals, and a huge tax bill will his neutered pawns – Emily very much included – continue to spread lies and maliciously attack the other council memebers?

I wonder if Paul will come good on his promise to investgate Quintero’s blatant slander letter claiming he paid for votes? Team Bhalla tried to take that to the NYC media outlets, as they do, but the only group that picked it up was PBS. DeFusco was sued and AirBnB’d and failed to fight back with to any real effect. Tiffanie got dumped early on from the Hudson County Democrat Organization, yet still thinks daddy Trump is the real enemy – not her own party. And Jim has to stay awake in council meetings long enough to realize what Ravi has assigned to him.
